So it begins...

I cook. Not as much as I used to, but I cook. I even got paid for it once, a little-known cafe called the Windsor Vintage Inn. Your basic diner, with ambitions of glory. Lasted about six months.

Anyway.

This is a biscuit
My problem is that I'm either trying to find stuff that's easy, or I'm trying to find things I've never had before. I've gone through a dozen or more cuisines in my life, and I can't entirely decide if I have a favorite. There are definitely items in the food and "foodie" world that I have tried and found to be worthy of the hype. This list includes:

Foie gras
Caviar
Truffles
Raw oysters
Raw shrimp (with the fried head as a garnish - oh, yeah...)
GOOD French pastries
An old Bordeaux

Things I have not tried, and probably never will:

Chicken feet (they're FEET)
Pig's feet (same issue)
Tongue
Brains

Then there are the things I have eaten that I won't eat again:

Kidneys (ok-tasting, but the function part still bothers me)
Okra
Deep-fried pickles
Warm gin
Tripe

Things that I hated as a child, but now enjoy:

Brussels sprouts
Broccoli

So, if you're looking for adventure in food, this may not be what you want. I'm sure there are plenty of foodblogs and TV shows out there where you can experience (even if only vicariously) the pleasures of eating another animal's anus. Just not here.

On the other hand, if you want to experience interesting, delicious cuisines from around the world, here's the kind of things I might be making with stuff real soon:

Pollo in Pane
Chicken Tabak
Real Southern Buttermilk Biscuits
Gravlax (w/homemade black bread & Akevit)

Oh, and for the politically-minded folks who may have noticed my other blog(s), the only thing I will say that is political will be this: I prefer organic, I prefer free-range, and I will avoid all GMO-tainted items where I can.
